The ship's spa or your hotel room in Amsterdam: two kinds of couples massage
Every large ship has a spa, and most couples study its menu at some point during the voyage. That makes it fair to ask why anyone arranges a couples massage in Amsterdam instead, on the night before or the night after. The short answer is that the two are not really the same thing.

The spa on a cruise ship is a well-run business inside a larger one. It has treatment rooms, a reception desk, a menu with fixed lengths and a timetable that fits around the ship's day. A couples treatment there usually means two tables side by side in a room with a sea view, booked through the cabin screen or at a desk on the spa deck. It is pleasant, and for many passengers it is all they want.
A couples massage in Amsterdam with a therapist who comes to your hotel room is a different arrangement from beginning to end. There is no reception and no laminated menu. The two of you choose the woman by name from the roster, pick the hour and the length, and she comes to a room that is yours for the whole night.
Time, and who controls it
Spa rooms are booked back to back. When your slot ends, the next couple is already waiting outside in their robes, and the room is turned around almost as soon as you leave it. That rhythm suits a sea day and does not suit an evening the two of you want to let run.
In a hotel room ashore the only timetable is yours. The session starts when she knocks and ends when the agreed time is up, and afterwards nobody needs the room back. Couples often notice that difference more than any other.
Privacy
On board, privacy is relative. The spa corridor is shared, the staff know your cabin number, and faces from the treatment room turn up again at dinner. Some couples find that easy; others find it makes the evening more polite than they had hoped. A hotel room in the city has a door, a lock and nobody on the other side of it who will be at the next table tomorrow.
What is on offer
A ship's menu is written for a broad public and stays inside it. The formats on the menu for two are written for couples who want an evening built around two people, with one therapist shared or one each, and lengths that run from an hour to the whole night. What each format involves is described on its own page, in plain terms, before anybody books.
When the spa is the better choice
If the two of you want a short treatment on a sea day, with no planning and no hotel involved, the spa is the obvious answer, and nothing here competes with it. Nothing from this side reaches a cabin either: the session always happens ashore, in a room you hold on land.
When the room ashore is the better choice
On the evening before boarding and on the first night back, the room ashore wins on almost every count. The ship is not open to you yet, or no longer, and the two of you have a whole evening in a private room with nothing booked after it. Write with the date and the hotel, and once the hour is confirmed she arrives forty to sixty minutes later.
