When a sailing date meets King's Day: a couples massage in Amsterdam
Every spring the city turns orange for King's Day, and now and then a sailing date falls right beside it. Couples who find themselves in Amsterdam that week get a festival they never planned for and a city that runs differently. The evening session needs a little more forethought than usual.

King's Day is the national celebration of the monarch's birthday, held at the end of April. In Amsterdam it means street markets on every pavement, music on corners, boats crowded with people on the canals and a city dressed in orange from morning until late. For a couple arriving for a cruise that week it is an unexpected spectacle. It also changes how a couples massage in Amsterdam should be arranged.
Book early
King's Day is one of the peak dates of the year. Hotels fill, the roster's evenings are taken sooner than usual, and couples who write on the day find a much shorter list of names. If your sailing falls in that week, write as soon as the dates are fixed and name the woman you would like.
The deposit
Peak dates always send half the fee ahead, whoever books and however close to the evening. That half holds the evening and counts towards the fee, and the rest is settled when she arrives. The booking terms page explains what becomes of it if plans change.
The day itself
Many streets in the centre are given over to markets and crowds, trams take other routes, and cars crawl or stop altogether near the canals. She crosses all of that to reach you, and the hour should be agreed with it in mind. An evening start, once the crowds begin to thin, suits most couples better than an afternoon one. Once the hour is agreed, she arrives forty to sixty minutes later.
The night before or after
If King's Day is the day before your sailing, keep the evening modest: the city will have worn the two of you out by dinner, and the morning still begins at the terminal. If it falls after the voyage, it can be the backdrop to a longer first night ashore, as long as the hotel is somewhere you can reach on foot through the crowds. The page on the evening before your cruise and the one on the evening after it cover both versions.
The hotel
Rooms beside the busiest squares stay loud until late on King's Day. If you have a choice, a hotel a little away from them, in Oud-Zuid or along the eastern waterfront, makes for a quieter evening. The session itself is the same everywhere in the centre.
